Summer Session Resources for Academic Departments/Schools

Mission

Illinois State University will offer high quality summer session programming and innovative learning opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. A vital summer program will serve to strengthen students’ academic programs as well as offer opportunities for programming that will complement and enhance their academic programs.

Summer 2012 Planning Meeting

The Summer Session 2012 Planning Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 8:30-9:45 at the Alumni Center, Room 116. Chairs, Directors, Advisors and others who have responsibility for coordinating Summer Session courses or advising students should attend.

8:30 - 8:45 a.m. - Continental breakfast

8:45 - 9:45 a.m. - Presentation and Question and Answers

Chairs/Directors - Provide suggestions for survey (as discussed during the July 14, 2011 Planning Meeting)

Summer Textbooks

The Office of the University Registrar manages the process of communicating course textbook adoptions. Visit the Registrar's website for additional information.

Information regarding textbooks to be adopted by faculty in Summer 2012 must be entered into the textbook listing system by March 1.

2012 Standard Sessions

2012 Standard Summer Session Dates in a Monthly Calendar Format


***May Interim Session: May 14 - June 1, 2012 (3 weeks - 5 days/week)***


Summer Session: May 21 - August 10, 2012 (various start/end dates)

Most courses will be offered during one of the following standard sessions (exceptions may be made to accommodate unique needs of the course format or the student population):

MAY START

    • May 21 - 4 weeks - Ends Thursday, June 14 (4 days per week)
    • May 21 - 6 weeks - Ends week of June 25 (2 or 4 days per week)
    • May 21 - 8 weeks - Ends week of July 9 (2 or 4 days per week)
    • May 21 - 12 weeks - Ends Friday August 10 (arranged)

JUNE START

    • June 4 - 3 weeks - Ends Friday, June 22 (5 days per week)
    • June 18 - 4 weeks - Ends Thursday, July 12 (4 days per week)
    • June 11 - 6 weeks - Ends week of July 16 (2 or 4 days per week)
    • June 11 - 8 weeks - Ends week of July 30 (2 or 4 days per week)

JULY START

    • July 16 - 4 weeks - Ends Thursday, August 9 (4 days per week)

Scheduling Resources

 

Scheduling Reminders:

  • Summer 2012 Schedules (and 2013 "base" course titles) are due Monday, September 12, 2011
  • Plan carefully, review the 2011 base schedules submitted last September to ensure they are included in the 2011 schedule.
  • May Interim Session Reminders:
    • Only courses that are offered 3-weeks/5-days per week are eligible to begin on the May Interim Session start date of May 9, 2011.
    • Students on Academic Probation are not eligible to register for a May Interim Session course.
    • Students are strongly encouraged not to enroll in more than one course while they are enrolled in a May Interim course.
    • Be cautious of offering courses during May Interim Session that have prerequisites.
      Spring grades are not reported until several days into the May Interim Session and may affect students ability to receive a refund if they need to withdraw from a May Interim course.
      Departments/Schools are responsible for notifying students who do not (after spring grades are reported) meet May Interim course prereqs.
